Stockholm Transport Responds to Facebook Protest
Posted by george on 25th September 2007

The Facebook protest against cutback plans by Greater Stockholm Transport, SL, which operates buses and subways in the Swedish capital, has had an effect.
The protesters were complaining that the company planned to raise the price of the monthly transit card from 620 kronor to 690 kronor, more than 100 dollars and an 11 percent increase, at the same time that it was dropping subway travel after midnight weekdays. “Metro” reports that in around a week the Facebook protest group gathered more than 6700 members.
SL now says it will not cut the middle of the night subway. However plans continue for the 11 percent rate hike, more than 5 times the government’s ceiling of 2 percent for inflation. Last year the price of the monthly cards was raised from 600 kronor to 620 kronor (a 3.3 percent hike).
So far there have been few official voices criticizing the plans to break the inflation ceiling so comprehensively.
