Chinese New Year in Stockholm
Posted by george on 18th February 2007

This weekend marks the Chinese New Year. The Year of the Dog has ended, it is now the Year of the Pig.
There isn’t a huge Chinese community in Stockholm, but in recent years the holiday has been marked at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities with dragon and lion dances by various groups with a Asian connection (such as the Wushsu group in the photos top and bottom).
Speakers this year included the Governor of Stockholm Per Unckel and Chinese Ambassador Lü Fengding. There was a performance by the Stockholm Chinese Choir and a fashion show with Chinese traditional dresses.
Also on Saturday the museum opened an exhibition about Chinese dragons and kites.
This year there was also a dragon parade down Hamngatan, in the center of downtown Stockholm.
