Sweden Sells Pornography-free Search Engine to Arab World

The Swedish company Picsearch has sold a pornography-free image search engine to the Arab world’s leading Internet company, Maktoob.
Maktoob runs the largest Arabic language search site, Araby. While the official press release says nothing about pornography, it does refer to Picsearch’s “family friendliness”. Picsearch describes one of the main advantages of its image search engine as having “a family friendliness that allows children to surf in safety as all offensive material is filtered out by our advanced filtering systems.”
Maktoob has over 4 million registered users and the newly launched search portal Araby.com has over 300 000 unique users every month.
