The Anti-Pirate Bureau, the notorious music and film industry lobby group which has not showed any hesitatation in bending the law or playing vigilante, has apparently taken on a new target.
Swedish Radio News reports that after its role in encouraging the Swedish authorities to close down the Pirate Bay file-sharing site (which is up and running again), the Anti-Pirate Bureau is going after a closed international network which it calls “Scenen” (”The Scene”), with has members in Sweden. According to the report, members of this network compete in how quickly they can upload new films, before they are released. Public sites like the Pirate Bay gain access to the files when a member leaks it.
According to the report, which comes from the Swedish Radio program “Front i P3″, the penalties that these pirates potentially face are far more serious than the small fines dished out to ordinary file-sharers, more in the region of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
